Similarities to Theatre
Both gladiator shows and modern theatre are common forms of entertainment. Both are frequent. Often, theatre productions feature two main characters involved in a conflict, like gladiator shows did. Both can show violence. Gladiatorial shows could last a long time, as can theatre. Both are very successful in society (or were).
Differences Between Theatre and Gladiatorial Shows
Most theatre productions do not end with an actual death, though the actors may portray one. These days, people must pay to go to the theatre. Theatre productions take place in an opera house or theatre, while gladiatorial shows took place in an amphitheatre. Gladiators would also often kill animals. Theatre productions do not harm animals.
